2010 Exhibition “Stepping Stones”

The Chapman Cultural Centre, Spartanburg

October 1 – 28th

This art exhibit symbolizes the artist’s move from Ireland to South Carolina in 2007 and the steps he continually takes to challenge himself as a painter and a person.  A self-taught artist, Kelly casts a sharp eye on the realistic, everyday details of his natural environment, whether Irish or Southeastern.  Presented by the Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg at the Chapman Cultural center

I draw my inspiration from how people interact with each other in their cultures and traditions, nature and the open countryside.

A scene can change in an instant, so being able to capture a scene quickly and accurately can make all the difference to a good painting.

Two artists whose work I constantly draw inspiration from are Dutch artist

Jan Vermeer famous for such paintings as "Girl with the Pearl Ear-ring" with his use of light, and the English landscape artist John Constable and his painting "The Hay-wain".
